But What Does Tomorrow Hold
In the ongoing series But What Does Tomorrow Hold, a project about people living in limbo on the edges of American society, Bujalski meets people to engage in conversation and understand their living situations by hearing from them personally. These images and stories always provide insight into where society decides to turn a blind eye.
Today, 70% of Californians cannot afford to own a home, and while the crisis of affordability has always hit low income renters the hardest, it is now a reality for the middle class as well. In 2017, 30% of California tenants put more than 50% of their income toward rent and utilities. Without a single county with sufficient affordable housing across all income levels, it is my goal to reveal the realities of the California housing crisis by fostering deeper, substantive conversations with our neighbors.
